"There are three criteria we have for designers. The jewelry should be contemporary rather than antique; there should be some redeeming factor, or thought behind the design and, finally, the execution of the actual pieces should be excellent. Sabrina had a good idea and she was willing to put out the money to get first rate goldsmith[s]."
Stuart Moore, the renowned jeweler in WWD
Gemscope was an idea of Arthur M. Young who tossed it out at supper as casually as asking to have the peas passed. He thought horoscopes in gems and gold would make me a good business. The inventor of the Bell 47 M*A*S*H helicopter, Arthur found a muse in astrology. Shortly before he died he revealed it had inspired most of his life work, including psychopter, the mind with wings, that became the Theory of Process. Since Arthur's ideas panned out, I listened to him. My college Fine Arts award, stint as a

professional photographer and healing with an emerald gemstone all helped kick off a special enterprise. When I brought an heirloom for repair to New York City's diamond district, the medieval cast of the street charmed me, so I found a contractor and pulled together a small manufacturing team. My engraver was commissioned by Pope John Paul and is so sought after he requires an introduction. My caster did me the favor out of pity when he saw that my first engraving kept vanishing by final polish. The jeweler for our Prism and the Autumn Embers Necklace had been a commissioned Vietnamese naval officer and with his family was among the last evacuated to the United States when the war ended. He sent all his four daughters through college. When a customer asked for a miniature replica of her birth chart, an inevitable but somewhat dreaded request, as the job was sure to be difficult, our signature Astro Talisman Medallion was born. Other customer requests led to Light-Hearted Fine Jewelry. The Robb Report graciously wrote about us, as did WWD, Bridal Guide and others. See Press. In the beginning small ads in The New Yorker brought us to you. We showed in high-end retail boutiques like Jerry Grant's A Joy Forever, the former Plaza Hotel, Henri Bendel and Jennifer Kaufmann in L. A. Several years ago we went online.
Just as we were gathering steam Arthur's wife Ruth Forbes Young, founder of http://www.ipinst.org/about/history.html, invited me to help insure her organization's original peace mission. The opportunity was irresistible, so I shifted my focus to her pioneering effort in mid-level training for diplomats and the military in mediation, negotiation and conflict resolution. Attending symposia in Vienna, Cairo and New York, I got to observe up close the fiery mix of religion, ethnic rivalry, climate change and greed-infected capitalism that has come to threaten peace and security, but just as clear was a universal yearning for a better way for everyone and our planetary home.
Arthur had been unveiling the dissolving stage where all life dramas, large and small are taking place, as a new age dawns. Some call it Aquarius; others a shift to a 5th dimensional frequency and still others the planetary ascension. Ruth used to say she worked to keep the peace, so people had the time to find the Theory of Process and live more enlightened. In any case, Arthur considered astrology "wisdom of the ancients" and as important now as it was in the past, for it tells of the soul and the myriad cycles of action through which consciousness and the entire cosmos evolve. Gemscope helps us know that, while providing delightful fine jewelry talismans.
